TOWNSEND'S ADVENTURE LIFESTYLES
We organise and facilitate outdoor education programs for schools, team building for corporates, and hiking trips for the general public.
Education outside of the classroom - We believe that outdoor education is important in developing self-concept, leadership, and communication skills. Outdoor education incorporates experiential learning with both elements of environmental and adventure education. Our outdoor education programs involve journey wilderness-based experiences in which students participate in a variety of adventurous challenges and outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, canoeing, ropes courses and group games/team-bonding.

Athlete Profile: Nicky Booyens
Having spent most of my racing career adventure racing and mountain biking, I decided to focus on trail running in 2015. I have always loved running and been a runner but it was never my main sport. 2015 was a great first year for trail running for me with the highlights being selected for the SA Ultra Distance trail running team to France for the Festival des Templiers race in October, having two great SA champs runs in the long distance and ultra-distance events and being the South African Sky Marathon series champion for 2015.
I am always looking for a bigger and tougher challenge and in 2015 I did the first Munga Mountain bike race – a 1091km non-stop, semi supported, mountain bike race through the Karoo. I loved it so much I went back to do it again in 2016,2018 and 2019 where I finally got on the podium and took 3rd place.
When the 400km Munga Trail was launched, I knew it was a race I had to do too, and I did the first Munga Trail in April 2017 and again in 2018 and 2019 – winning the ladies race all 3 times and finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th overall respectively. 2019 also saw me do my first 100miler trail runs and I was super happy to win both, the Mac Mac 100miler and the Cederberg 100miler.
My heart was always in Adventure Racing and the end of 2016 I got back into to it and raced the Himalayan Challenge in India in September, which my team won. India had also won my heart so I went back in 2017 to race Expedition India at the end of the year where my team placed 2nd. 2018 was another great year of adventure racing with my team, the Red Ants, with the Red Ants getting a podium position in all the 4 local races we participated in as well as finishing our first Adventure Racing World Champs in Reunion in 27th position!
I just love to be outdoors in the mountains, exploring, meeting new people and seeing new places!
I have a loving husband and 3 dogs which are my life! We try to spend as much time together outdoors in the mountains or bushes exploring – my dogs just love to get out and explore as well!
